temptation in the wilderness
The season of Lent is the 40 days before Easter. The 40 days is symbolic of the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert. During that time, Jesus was tempted many different times. He used prayer and meditation to keep himself strong and focused on God.
We too, are frequently tempted. Lent is a time for us to prepare for Easter. One way for us to prepare is to use prayer and meditation to keep ourselves strong and focused on God – just like Jesus did!
A fun and different way to pray and meditate is with a Labyrinth. Labyrinths are simple paths designed for people to move while praying and/or meditating. Some labyrinths are huge outdoor paths for people to walk through. Other labyrinths are small enough to trace with your finger anywhere you go.
Attached are copies of two finger labyrinths for you to try. Begin by placing your finger upon the path. Every time you breathe out (exhale) advance your finger along the trail. While you move along the labyrinth you can recite a prayer, talk quietly to God, or just quiet your thoughts. Once you reach the center of the labyrinth stop and pause for a moment. When you are ready, slowly move your finger back along the path until you exit the labyrinth.
