REMEMBER
By Frederick Buechner
When you remember me, it means that you have carried something of who I am with you, that I have left some mark of who I am on who you are. It means that you can summon me back to your mind even though countless years and miles may stand between us. It means if we ever meet again, you will know me. It means that even after I die, you can still see my face and hear my voice and speak to me in your heart. For as long as you remember me, I am never entirely lost
* * * * * * * * * * *
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little—but not too long, and not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared Miss me—but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone It’s all part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds. Miss me--but let me go.
