moses gets the ten commandments
LESSON:
The video clip you’ll be watching this week is from a famous movie called “The Ten Commandments.” It is the story of Moses’ life. (I can't believe this movie is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year!). Click below.

In this clip, you will see a dramatization of Exodus 31:18-32. It is the story of Moses going up Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are the "ten rules for living the right way" carved into stone by God and given to Moses so he could share them with the Hebrews. While Moses is up on Mt. Sinai, at the bottom of the mountain, the Hebrews decide to make their own rules. They make a golden calf statue and begin to worship it.
God gave Moses (and us) the Ten Commandments to teach the people (both the Hebrews and us) right from wrong. Instead of following the Commandments out of fear, or thinking we can "earn more points with The Big Guy Upstairs," we should follow God's rules in GRATITUDE (thankfulness) for all that God has done, is doing, and will continue to do for us!
NOW, PLAY A GAME:
The Bible tells us that the Commandments were carved into stone by “The Finger of God.” Let’s see how many of the Ten Commandments you can write with YOUR finger just like God did .
You’ll need:
• A skinny marker or pencil
• Tape or a rubber band
• A piece of paper
Take the marker or pencil and fasten it to your pointer finger using a piece of tape or a rubberband. Have the writing point extend a little bit from the tip of your finger. Now, without gripping the pen and using only your index finger that has the pen attached to it, begin writing down as many of the Ten Commandments as you can. Use basic keywords to keep it short. Invite the rest of your family to play! Take turns adding a commandment to the group’s paper tablets.
