worship service march 17 2024
Fifth Sunday of lent
SERMON: What A Story!
SCRIPTURE: Luke 10:25-37
RESPONSIVE READING--CORINTHIANS 13;25-37
Leader: If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal
Everyone: And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing
Leader: If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Everyone: Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
Leader: It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.
Everyone: It does not rejoice in wrong-doing, but rejoices in the truth.
Leader: It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Everyone: Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—FROM “A BRIEF STATEMENT OF FAITH”
In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
ANTHEMS AND HYMNS
Anthem: The Faith of A Child
Offertory: I Believe
