SERMON: A Time To Remember
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:1-2
RESPONSIVE READING—ROMANS 8:31-39
Leader— What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Everyone-- He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Leader— Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies
Everyone-- Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Leader—Across the barriers that divide people of different cultures
Everyone-- Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
Leader— As it is written: For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered
Everyone-- No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
Leader-- For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
Everyone-- neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—Confession of 1967
God’s redeeming work in Jesus Christ embraces the whole of human life; social and cultural, economic and political, scientific and technological, individual and corporate. It includes the natural environment as exploited and despoiled by sin. It is the will of God that the divine purpose for human life shall be fulfilled under the rule of Christ and all evil be banished from creation.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
