SERMON: How Does God Speak?
SCRIPTURE: Exodus 2:1-10
RESPONSIVE READING—Psalm 8
Leader: O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is Your name in all the earth. You have set Your glory above the heavens.
Everyone: Out of the mouths of babes and infants You have founded a bulwark because of Your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.
Leader: When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars that You have established;
Everyone: What are human beings that You are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?
Leader: Yet You have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.
Everyone: You have given them dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under their feet,
Leader: All sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,
Everyone: the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas
Leader: O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—CONFESSION OF 1967
God has created human beings for a personal relation with Himself that they may respond to the love of the Creator. God has created male and female and given them a life which proceeds from birth to death in a succession of generations and in a wide complex of social relations. God has endowed humans with capacities to make the world serve their needs and to enjoy its good things. Life is a gift to be received with gratitude and a task to be pursued with courage. People are free to seek life within the purpose of God: to develop and protect the resources of nature for the common welfare, to work for justice and peace in society, and in other ways to use their creative powers for the fulfillment of human life.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
