SERMON: Where Is Jesus?
SCRIPTURE: Luke 16:19-31
RESPONSIVE READING: BEATITUDES
Leader: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Everyone: Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted
Leader: Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth
Everyone: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Leader: Blessed are the merciful for they will receive mercy
Everyone: Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God
Leader: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God
Everyone: Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Leader: Blessed are you when people revile yu and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Everyone: You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can it saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
Leader: You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
